Training objectives
Learning outcomes
By the end of the day participants will be able to:

•Describe normal physical and psychological development in adolescence.
•Describe some of the genetic and environmental factors which may impact on the mental health of children and young people.
•Define some of the more common mental health issues that affect young people including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, suicide and psychosis.
•Identify early signs and symptoms which may indicate mental health issues in adolescents.
•Respond appropriately to young people with mental health issues, seeking specialist help as required. •Work with other professionals to build protection, support and resilience for the young person and family members/carers. •Develop support plans in partnership with young people to keep them safe and meet their mental health needs. •Apply harm reduction strategies with young people who self-harm.
