Code: SCH/19/20 Strategies to support memory, including precision teaching

This course will provide theories and strategies aimed at increasing retention through precision teaching and supporting memory in the classroom.
The course is designed and delivered by the Educational Psychology Service using evidence based approaches.

How can this course help?
The ability to store, recall and manipulate complex information is essential for academic achievement. There are several memory systems we use to store information, working memory in particular is commonly used for classroom based tasks. An estimated 10% of children have working memory deficits which limit their academic progress (Gathercole, 2009). This course provides an overview of the mechanisms of memory and how targeted interventions such as precision teaching can support children who struggle to retain information.
