Code: SCH/20/54 KS2 Assessment of Writing: Developing and Understanding of GDS in Year 5 & 6

Description
This two session course is designed to support teachers with developing writing at Greater Depth in upper KS2.

Outline
Session 1 will focus on becoming more familiar with, and developing a more secure understanding of, a range of greater depth collections of writing.
The session will look at the importance of a wide range of reading to support writing and look at examples of poetry and picture books that can be used as a stimuli to inspire writing at the higher standard. LA moderators will share good practice from their schools and be available to work with delegates to clearly identify the features of greater depth writing. Delegates will be asked to share good practice and identify key texts that they have successfully used as models for pupils to use in their own writing.
Session 2 will focus on the writing skills pupils need to develop to make careful, considered and deliberate choices about the purpose of their writing, their intended audience and how the composition of their writing – reflecting upon the vocabulary, grammar and form – will ultimately impact on the reader.

Delegates will be required to bring the writing of one focus child to identify progress towards achieving the greater depth standard and identify the next steps in learning.

(This collection needs to be photocopied 4 times)

There will be an opportunity for delegates to explore the collections of greater depth writing with an experienced moderator.

Cost Details
£150 per person for all Peterborough schools and academies, and Cambridgeshire LA maintained schools (£75 per person per session for second & subsequent delegates)

£170 per person for Cambridgeshire academies, schools from other LAs and Independent schools (£80 per person per session for second & subsequent delegates)
