Learning Outcomes

By the end of the day participants will be able to:

  • Describe normal physical and psychological development in adolescence
  • Describe some of the genetic and environmental factors which may impact on the mental health of children and young people
  • Define some of the more common mental health issues that affect young people including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, suicide and psychosis
  • Identify early signs and symptoms which may indicate mental health issues in adolescents
  • Respond appropriately to young people with mental health issues, seeking specialist help as required
  • Work with other professionals to build protection, support and resilience for the young person and family members/carers
  • Develop support plans in partnership with young people to keep them safe and meet their mental health needs
  • Apply harm reduction strategies with young people who self-harm
